International Brownfields Sites![]()
Ostrava Project, Czech Republic
A collaboration with the faculty of Civil Engineering at the Technical University
of Ostrava in the Czech Republic which builds on The Brownfields Center's ongoing
research, education and technology transfer efforts. The project provides an opportunity
to begin to understand the similarities and differences between the brownfield development
processes in very different economic, political, regulatory, and cultural settings. At the
same time, the workshops are an experiment to explore the feasibility of adapting a
technique developed by the architectural community for use in developing site specific
alternatives. We are extending this concept to get a better understanding of the
brownfield development process.
Brno Project, Czech Republic The Brownfields Center, in conjunction with the office of City Planning and the Technical University of Brno in the Czech Republic, organized a workshop to explore opportunities for redevelopment of a portion of the Ceskomoravsky Cement plant and quarry in the City of Brno before it becomes a brownfield. The workshop brought together experts in planning, environment, economic development, site development, architecture, public-private partnerships and the development of greenspace from the United States, the Czech Republic, and Hungary. This workshop was a platform for ongoing research and educational collaboration between The Brownfields Center and the Technical University of Brno.
