Graduate Student Assembly-Civil and Environmental Engineering - Carnegie Mellon University

CEE Graduate Student Assembly

The Graduate Student Assembly (GSA) is the student body representing all graduate students at Carnegie Mellon. Between the general student population and the elected GSA government, there are GSA Representatives (Reps) from each academic department. The function of these GSA Reps is to channel the concerns and suggestions from the graduate students in their department, to the general GSA; as well as to care for their academic and social well-being.

CEE has always had GSA Reps. Each Rep usually serves for a minimum of one year. CEE Reps are typically nominated by former reps through an informal process, and are in charge of organizing social events in the department, such as Spring and Fall Happy Hours. GSA also partially supports bagels for Friday breakfast and also pizzas for department seminars. As your Reps, it is our job to act as the liaison with the university; so if you want to voice a concern, just contact us by e-mail or in person. We will be happy to help you!

Acting as the Rep is an insightful experience to learn the nuances of working in student government and becoming a part of the solution.

Some events that CEE GSA has helped organized for CEE graduate students include the Annual CEE Canoe Trip, the Mid Semester Mixers, the 1st CEE Movie Night, and the GSA Happy Hour during Preview Day.

There are also many events that GSA puts together for all graduate students on campus including Ice Skating, Beer Tasting at Phipps Conservatory, Wine Tasting at the PPG Aquarium, among many other events. For more info see the main GSA website.
