ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING DESIGNATED MINOR [last updated 3-27-06]

OVERVIEW

Undergraduate students in the Carnegie Mellon College of Engineering, the Carnegie Institute of Technology (CIT), can elect to complete an interdisciplinary Designated Minor in addition to their regular majors for B.S. degrees. Designated minors are offered in the curriculum of the Carnegie Institute of Technology to promote flexibility and diversity among the college's engineering students. Environmental Engineering is one of six designated minors offered by CIT. A student in any engineering major may elect to complete the Environmental Engineering Minor.

Concern for the environment now influences a wide range of public, private and engineering design decisions. Environmental Engineering is widely recognized as a discipline on the graduate and professional level, and undergraduate training in environmental issues and processes can provide the preparation necessary to pursue this career path, or serve as a useful component to a career in any of the traditional areas of engineering.  More information about environmental engineering is available from the American Academy of Environmental Engineers.

Effective preparation in Environmental Engineering requires broad knowledge and skills in the areas of environmental science, environmental engineering, and environmental policy. Course requirements from each of these areas are thus included as part of the program for the Environmental Engineering Minor.
