I’m currently a Visiting Scholar at the Robotics Institute, working
with Prof. Daniel P. Siewiorek. Earlier I received my PhD in Civil &
Environmental Engineering from Carnegie Mellon (December 2011). I was advised
by Profs. Susan Finger, Daniel P. Siewiorek and Carolyn P. Rosé. My PhD thesis
was titled “Towards a framework to support engineering design student
projects.” At Carnegie Mellon, I have been a Carnegie Institute of Technology Dean's
Fellow and a JN Tata Scholar.
I also graduated (August 2011) from the University of Chicago with
a Masters degree in International Relations. I was
advised by Dr. Michael J. Reese and Matthias Staisch.
My MA thesis was titled “Population-centric counterinsurgency as seen through
the Iraq War Logs.” At UChicago, I was a University
of Chicago Unendowed Scholar. Previously, I've been a National Talent Search
Scholar (NTSE) and a recipient of the Institution of Engineers (India) Gold
Medal in Civil Engineering.
I have broad interests in design learning, computational linguistics
and collaborative team-work. My main research is on tracking design knowledge
through a mix of machine learning algorithms and computational linguistics.
I am also interested in problems of modeling, learning and
inference in other complex temporal domains. For example, I worked on
evaluating the operational measures of counterinsurgency success by using
computational linguistic techniques on about 400,000 significant-action field
reports of the Iraq War Logs. More details about my research can be found here.

my background in machine learning, data management and knowledge capture in
